Awards and Honors
- Prof. Ora Kedem, professor emerita. The University of Twente in the Netherlands conferred an honorary doctorate to Professor Ora Kedem on Friday 30 November, 2007 during the celebration of the 46th Dies Natalis of UT. Prof. Kedem headed the Department for Desalination and Water Treatment at BGU during the years 1995 to 2003.
Excerpts from words said in the award ceremony: "Prof. Kedem published her first scientific article in 1951 and is still highly engaged in the field of membrane technology. Her research into both artificial and natural membranes receives great recognition and she has published pioneering articles on both subjects. Prof. Kedem and her work have been distinguished with many international honours and awards during her long career. Her research is of national/strategic interest: it forms a major contribution to the development of desalination membranes that may eventually provide solutions for water shortages in the Middle East."
The award ceremony was followed by an international workshop on "Biological and technical membranes" in honor of Prof. Kedem, in which leading scientists from universities in Israel and abroad took part.
- Anat Bernstein, a Ph.D. student of Prof. Eilon Adar, Dr. Zeev Ronen and
Prof. Ronit Nativ (Hebrew University), was selected as a Rieger-JNF Fellow
in Environmental Studies for 2005-6. Anat was one of only 27 fellows to
be selected from 90 applicants for this prestigious award.
- Alit Wiel-Shafran, a Ph.D. student of Prof. Eilon Adar, Dr. Amit Gross and Dr.
Zeev Ronen of the Department of Environmental Hydrology & Microbiology, received
the 2005 Dean's prize for excellent students, awarded for her outstanding M.Sc.
work.
- Prof. Ora Kedem, professor emerita, was elected Associate Foreign Member of the
US National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Prof. Kedem has renewed her affiliation
