Abstract
The Coastal Aquifer of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area has been heavily contaminated by local industries. About 50% of the production wells in the area have had to be closed due to high levels of heavy metals and organic pollutants. This project aims to elaborate on the 3-D distribution of organic and explosive contaminants, which have infiltrated into several sub-aquifers. It will address the hydrochemical evolution of chromates, solvents and explosive compounds through the unsaturated zone, and along the flow path within the aquifers.
2002-2003 Sustainable development and protection of water resources in the irrigated land of the Ily river delta, Kazakhstan, A. Yakirevich & E. Adar (Israel); V. Veselov & Yu. Panichkin

Abstract
During the Soviet period, Kazakhstan implemented many poorly designed and constructed projects on land reclamation systems, associated with the diversion of water from remote basins. Unsustainable exploitation of these systems led to soil degradation, contamination of surface and underground water, and deterioration of the health of the population due to consumption of low quality domestic water and food. The aim of this research is to elaborate quantitatively on a complex of hydrological features to decrease negative effects of anthropogenic activities on the environment in the agricultural area of the Ily river delta. The approach used for this study is based on integration of field data, numerical simulations and management strategies.
