M.Sc.

Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Technology, Department of Plastics Technology, Moscow, USSR, 1959

Title of Thesis:  Chemical Stability of Furfural-Acetone Resins.

Ph.D.

Moscow All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Plastics, Ion-Exchange Resin and Membranes Division, USSR, 1970

Title of thesis: Investigation of Formation Process and Physicochemical Properties of Copolymers and Cation Exchangers Based on Styrene and Divinylbenzene Isomers

Research Interests:

Dr. Belfer’s main research interest lies in the field of reactive polymer preparation and application. For many years she has been involved in projects supported by Israeli Industry (Dead Sea Works) as well as the Ministry of Trade & Commerce and the Ministry of Science in relation to the synthesis of selective ion exchange resins and their applications to different separation processes.

During the last eight years, Dr. Belfer has been involved in projects related to membrane technology. In particular, she has been involved in developing the process of chemical modification of commercial RO membranes, in order to make them much less prone to fouling (supported by MEDRC). This process has also been adopted for UF and NF membranes (OLAPS project supported by ES). At the same time, she has been part of a team developing an analytical method for characterization of novel membranes using ATR-FTIR spectral technique.
