Research Interests

Prof. Issar’s current research focuses on the impact of climate change on the hydrological cycle and socio-economic systems to enable the development of conceptual models in order to mitigate the negative impact of global change. His most recent research tries to answer the question whether the crisis which looms upon an extensive part of humanity can be avoided?, while taking into consideration the fact that the present warming process is gaining momentum beyond past records.

Another question to be answered is whether in order to mitigate this global crisis, the policy of "Sustainable Development" should not be replaced by "Progressive Development" which will involve wide and deep changes in the natural environment. Such changes, among others, are the planting of the arid and semi arid regions, in order to sequester atmospheric carbon, using fossil water resources found in abundance under most deserts of the world. Professor Issar has published more than 100 papers in the fields of geology, hydrogeology, climate change and philosophy of science.
